Why Keep Up With the Kardashians?

No-one should care about the Kardashians. When I say no one should care, I mean they should not be the apple of everyones eye; they should not be the headline of news outlets. It may sound harsh, but it is true. There is no reason to care about the way they make their ramen. There should be no reason to care if Kendall had a "nip slip." There should be no reason to care if Kylie is dating rapper Tyga or if she is not. The fact of the matter is, the family is drowned in so much attention that they do not even deserve. They have done nothing to earn the spotlight. The only ones who even have a right to be famous are the fathers- Caitlyn Jenner, former Olympian and outspoken activist for LGBTQ rights, and Robert Kardashian Sr., attorney for O.J. Simpson during his murder trial. The rest are of the crew are simply piggybacking their way to fame.

Defenders of the Kardashians leap on the necks of those who claim, "They're famous for no reason." Pro-Kardashian Dynasty folks are quick to talk about Kendall's modeling career, Kylie's lip kits, or Kim's career as a businesswoman. It's true, those are factors into why the Kardashian name is so huge. They are famous for something. There is no doubt they are talented at what they do- be that modeling, fashion design, makeup design, or anything else of the like. Kendall is one of the top upcoming models. Kylie's lip kit is adored by makeup enthusiasts and professionals. Kim has proved to be quite the entrepreneur. But why should that make them famous? Why should every news outlet update their every move? Why is America so infatuated with this family that they BUY an app to read their weird confessions or stories? 

The fact of the matter is, while the Kardashians are successful they do not deserve the fame they have acquired. Other than being related to well-known persons, they have no reason to be so in the spotlight. They are successful. But being successful at business does not make you celebrity material. There are tons of entrepreneurs with huge companies that if I saw walking down the street, I, nor most other people, probably wouldn't even know- let alone care. Name me a big company, and I bet I have no idea who runs it or thought of the idea. An argument can be made for Kendall being in the spotlight, I suppose. She is a fashion icon and is the face of lots of magazines and fashion companies. Even still, though, why does the public chose to fixate on her? There are tons of other elite models, and again, if I passed them on the street I would have no idea. It is possible to admire someones success and work without idolizing them on a pedestal. 

Why do people care? I wonder that every time I open Snapchat discovery and almost every article/news outlet has a story/comment on something a Kardashian did. I suppose it comes down to being available to the press and being open to scandal reports. Both are something Kardashians never stray from and both are something the American public eats right up. The rest of the world can keep wondering what Kourtney ate for lunch on her cheat day, but I have better things to do than keep up with the Kardashians.
